1.800 kilometers, that’s what our duo has travelled so far, mainly on rollerskates. “Without exaggeration, the first weeks we really went through hell.  The rollerskates hurt our feet tremendously.  The weather conditions were awful : rain, wind.  We really suffered from the cold.”

Because the two are desperate to travel around the world WITHOUT using motorized transport, Nicole and Ingrid had to cycle endless detours. “Somewhere in Hamburg we wanted to cross the Elbe, over a bridge.  Unfortunately, no entry for cyclists and pedestrians. There was no sign or plate saying what skaters and prams had to do.  So, we had to make a detour of 40 kilometers to a bridge who allowed skaters to cross it.  Same scenario in Bussum.  The only way to get to the other side of the North-sea Canal was by taking the ferry, which of course was out of the question for us.”  After some discussion we were allowed to cross the Canal  through the lockdoors, suspisciously watched by the wealthy passengers on the cruise ship (who laid in the sluice).  For a moment there, we were seen as terrorists trying to escape !”

“The past few weeks we followed the North-sea cycle track to Denmark, near the coast.  It was a bit of a gamble .  But in the end, it just went perfect.  One day we skated near the coast, the other day we had to find a way through thousands sheep.  We were very surprised to find ourselves, at the end of this trip, on a nude beach.  A couple of them tried to convince us to continue our trip ….. naked !!”
”We gain 2 kilos.”

,,We somewhat had a prejudice about Germany and its inhabitants.   Unnecessary, so it seemed.”  Germans are correct !  Very straight forward but also very friendly.  They all say hello when passing by.  They eat a lot of sausages, that’s for sure !”

“It’s been two months now since we left home.  Nicole, in the meantime, had her 42 birthday. Despite the daily exercise, she gained 2 kilos.  We hold Germany responsible for it !”
