Because the whole setup of our 5-year trip is NOT to use motorised transport, we had to find another way to cross the sea-canal. The only possibility was to take the ferry – but we could’t do that ! The nearby bridge was kilometres away.

So therefore, we tried to cross the canal by using the lockdoors . We had no problem convincing the surveyor. His boss was less happy and willing. From his window, he saw us trying to get to the other side. He shouted through the intercom : STOP !! COME BACK AT ONCE !! He had already called the police….

In the sluice there was this beautiful, most expensive cruise ship. The passengers aboard that ship couldn’t believe what they saw ! After endless telephone conversations, we were allowed to continue our trip. To calm down the passengers on the ship, the captain explained through the intercom the goal of our trip. We even got applause !! Meanwhile, the police had arrived and they helped us crossing the lockdoors. When we finally reached the other side, the local newspapers were already waiting to take a intervieuw.
