“After our dingy stay in Multan (Pakistan) - where excrements of pet animals on the floor in every house – are a ‘common’ thing, we now are in Lahore, some 30 kilometers from the Indian border”, Nicole tells us.
Multan was so dirty and dusty, really nasty.
“We have the feeling to be reborn, back to civilisation. It’s about time that we take up the matter ! Our personal hygiene and the opportunity to even sleep in a hotelbed ! “
Nicole en Ingrid are knocking on their 18th country door : India.
They have no bad feelings leaving Pakistan. Apart from the hygiene and dirt, Pakistan is a paradise for drugs, bandits, Using and cultivating drugs seems like a national sport to us. “It’s a men’s world, we saw few women. Here in Lahore we see modern and unveiled women in the streets. The past few days were we could hardly bear the dirt. We felt like walking in a zoo. Excrements everywhere. We are dying to lay ourselves in a bed ! What a releave !
Police : your friend !
“After the kidnapping and the constant peeping of the police, we now get our freedom back, step by step. We felt like prisoners the last few weeks. After we decided not to accept the police’s invitation to go on a ride with them, they were rude and unpolite to us. Therefore we decided not to ride on the small paths, but to take the highways. And so we entered the border crossing to India. The more we approached Lahore, the less guards we saw. Finally, there were no guards anymore. These guards were there to ‘guard’ us, not to ‘protect’ us, Nicole says. “I have red spots all over my body” Nicole says. “A local chemist told me that we are desiccated”. “We realize now that we hardly drank during our trips. Our skin looks like parchment, bone-dry. Because of the constant diarrhoea, we lost some weight and are feeling weak. We have to drink lots of water, our wizard told us. A big surprise from Belgium was waiting for us. Our parents and friends sent us sweets and candy ! Much to our surprise we received a parliament Santa Clause…. And he was still in one piece ! The new cell phone was very welcome too. We also got a cartoon (self made and made from news articles) and lots of cards. It was great and we thank everyone for it !
