Through
the local newspapers, our popularity has increased enormously. Norwegians are very warm and peaceful. So far, we never heard a Norwegian raising his voice.
We kind of set up a network for our “stay over nights”. The person
who offered us a bed will call a friend the next morning some 50 kilometers
further to make sure we’ll have a bed to sleep in for the night to come.
Our average distance normally is 75 kilometers a day.
But now with this weather we are way below that !
Add to this the fact that we can only cycle from 10 in the morning till 3
in the afternoon. Between these hours there is enough light !
The rest of the day is as dark as the night.
Its really depressing. And…… by February the sun will be back.
It’s getting colder and colder. The
feeling you have when you lay down in a warm bed is undescribable.
We feel like to take-away frozen meals that are about to defrost !
Highlight of the week was no doubt the crossing of the polar circle.
No trees, nothing. Minus 22°
Celsius but we had this heavenly feeling. Ingrid
fell off her bike. Nothing serious thank goodness.
The roads are so icy, you can’t imagine that.
Because of these temperatures it’s not that easy to take a “sanitary
stop”. We are wearing four
trousers…… We were also scared
that our chaines would freeze, but so far, so good.
We found a special oil (thanks to a good soul) to put on our chaines.
