Nicole and Ingrid are on the moon.....
Nicole sighs, you can compare Idaho, the state we're in now, with being on the
moon. It is so dark and deathlike. What a difference with the first state we
visited. Such contrasts, Nicole tells us. Last week, while cycling through
Montana, we enjoyed the beautiful landscape, the mountains and the shiny
glaciers. Today we feel like astronauts, dropped on the moon and leaving our
shuttle to make our first walk on the moon ! It is a fact that in Idaho, the
first Apollo-astronauts came here to practice, because of its similarity with
the moon-landscape.
Nights are cold and the cold stimulates our imagination. And if you can't sleep,
what do you do ? So Ingrid and I decided to go for a walk on the local cemetary.
It's one of our hobby's. And off we went ! Armed with a flashlight
we looked at the gravestones. Here in the United States, the cause of death is
engraved on the stones. It gave us an uncomfortable feeling reading it : suicide,
shot by accident, broken hearts, one who drank himself to death, etc.
When we returned to our tent, we were so scared, for a moment there we thought
that the death were haunting us, we heard all kind of strange noises.
Another thing we won't slightly forget is our visit to a grotto/cavern. As told
before, the landscape is bold with its fossilized trees, volcanic caverns.
During our walk through a grotto I dropped our only flashlight.... what a
disaster it turned out to be ! You could not see your hand before your face.
By sensing and scanning, on both hands and knees and with the help of our
guardian angel we found the exit of the tunnel. You better believe us, when you
are below the surface for hours, coming out again in the day light even makes a
dark, moody moon-landscape, a heaven on earth !
