My arms were as heavy as lead ; I could hardly hold the telephone. We have been paddling for a whole day, in a fjord, without a break. Rocks here have a height, say about 1.800 m. Taking a break at a landing-place ? No way ! There were none !
It was just beautiful. Where ever we looked, snowy-white waterfalls rumbled down, hundreds of meters. In between there were few small farms, isolated, desolated. Farmers moved themselves with ropes and ladders. When they saw some inspector coming up towards them, they just moved the ladders and ropes. It was all so crazy. They even tied their sheep and their children with a rope to the house ! One slide of your foot and there you were : 1800 meters between the whales !
Whales are so cute ! There’s hundreds of them. They swim among you, they jump, they swim under your boat as to let you know : hey, we’re glad you’re here !

When a whale comes out of the water, it jumps and comes down with this enormous dump – very spectacular ! They’re kind animals, they won’t hurt you, Norwegians have told us. Funny people, these Norwegians. Very much on their own, but if you need help, you can built on them. They really take care of everything. For example : they call the Norwegian weather forecast to see whether or not we can paddle through the fjord. Real heros too ! They want to make the crossing between South-America and Africa on a Norwegian Viking ship. A hairy, rough Norwegian with a wooden leg and one eye is wanted ! Newspapers already are looking for captains !
