Nicole and Ingrid were taught a lesson last week when they found a dead
hunter ! They now obediently follow the main road to Jakoetsk. 'This main road
is nothing more than a misty glide crowded with heavy trucks.
"This is a death-trap adventure and we felt it personally", so Nicole tells us.
"The main road to Pokrovsk is a rollercoaster where heavy trucks try to catch up
and oncoming cars make diabolic noises and blind you with their lights. The
drivers are on the road for hours on end and they drink a lot of wodka. Every
time we hear a truck coming, we hurry alongside the border. A border here is a
dip mountain-slope with neadle-leaved trees.
We were so afraid of getting hit by a truck that we kept on walking nearby that
border, on the left side of the road. We carried lamps and fluorescence. But bad
luck ! A truck who was trying to catch up, side-slipped and came our way, its
big, huge lights blinding us completely ! The only way out was to jump into the
border, pulling our sleighs with us ! And down we went, my God, so very deep
that we tumbled all the way down. When we finally stopped rolling down, our
sleighs lay on top of us. Our bones cracked and our bodies hurt. A few drivers
had seen it happening and they came down to help us. They took us to a nearby
hospital , to the emergency ! They examined us for hours !
The doctors were surprised that we had survived it : "you are very very strong
women". Bruised ribs and one sprained ankle (Ingrid's). That's all !
We wonder : if we had taken a side-road, none of this would have happened.......
