Nicole en Ingrid build a raft
Easier
said than done ! We spent hours on
end trying to make a raft. First we
had to drag piles of wood from a mountain all the way down to the river. Then
the trifling work began. We first
had to build the floor. We needed
20 huge logs, on top of that came 2 layers of another 20 small logs.
That’s it, we thought. But
then Lars told us that we had to make another copy ! Our masterpiece is six layers thick ! Only ropes hold it together, no nails. On top of it we put a wooden construction with a sail.
That will be our ‘home’. Our
raft weighs about a ton ! Lars is a
nice chap. Not the typical Swedish
man with blond hair and blue eyes, but quite charming.
He is not going to keep us company on our raft.
We’ll be on our own, a whole week on the water for some 50 kilometers.
We haven’t spotted any villages on the way, so there was no need of going to
the landingstage. So we had
to be prepared and make sure that we had enough drinks and food.
Loads of water, 1 kilo bananas, loafs of bread
containing applejuice. A
real delicacy, it has a sweet taste and is very mellow. What else ?
Chocolate
paste … No, we won’t starve to death. We
really are fed up with rain, lightning and thunderstorms.
We were nearly drawn last Wednesday.
The camping area where we had put our tent totally flooded.
We were just in time to grab all our things. But, that’s over now.
