" We’re heading for Thailand. We’ve seen it all here in
Laos. It is time for us to move on and so we decided to cross the border. The
past few days we stuffed ourselves with meat and potatoes, so, we’re ready for
another adventure”, Nicole tells.
Last week there still was some doubt whether the two would further explore Laos
or not. We’re at some 20 kilometers from the Mekong-river and we can cross the
border with Thailand any time now. “ Laos is dirty and it’s people look underfed,
unhealthy” , Nicole tells us firmly. “To be honest, we’ve had it”. “We had to
wait for ages before our means of transportation had arrived and we just can’t
sit still ! Thank goodness all the spare parts arrived in perfect condition.”
Massage
"When we tested our recumbent cycles (our mountainbikes have been sent back to
Belgium), we were literally surrounded by the locals. They probably never saw
our vehicles before because their interest was genuine. They had to touch
everything. We kept one’s weather eye open because we didn’t want parts to get
lost or twisted off.
Before leaving, we enjoyed a rough massage. Two young Laos guys turned us inside
out ! As a result : we’re 10 years younger now ! We had some delicious meals
here : meat and REAL potatoes. We’re stuffed with calories now because soon it
will be noodles and rice again”, they say.
We’re heading for Thailand and we are hoping to celebrate the turning of the
year in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. From a bird’s eye view to Thailand is
800 kilometers, but we will make it 1500 kilometers. Our biggest enemy will be
the sun, because she is shining relentlessly at the moment. Day temperatures can
reach about 40 °C !
And oh yes, something else ! Flemish people that we met here had to fly back to
Belgium unexpectedly. When they returned, they brought us …… depilatory. We can
now show our legs again to the world ! ! “
