RAIL RELATED GAMES

Following is a list of railway (or railroad) games I played, and are all train related. They are placed in an order I experienced the games with the best games at the top. Games that are not listed, I did not play, but are therefore not more or less good than the ones listed.
  1. OpenTTD - Open Transport Tycoon

One of the best railway games of all times. All started with Chris Sawyer's original Railroad Tycoon and the later Transport Tycoon Delux, which was an increadibly addicting game. OpenTTD is a "free" remake and even better than the orginal game, with still a remarkable large community.
  2. Railroad Tycoon II

A very complete and addictive game where you deal with a lot of aspects of a competing railway company, from laying tracks, setting up schedules, and managing actions. This is a game where you really can feel the struggle to survive within a harsh competion.
  3. Traffic Giant

Not only very beautifull graphics, but also a very good game engine made this game really challenging and interresting. It's all about busses, trams and trains, with the accent on getting the little inhabitants to their destination. This is a very well done game.
  4. Rail Across America

A very good, addictive game with challenging scenarios. Too bad that a major bug makes the empire building frustrating. This game could have been a major hit.

  5. Trainz

Building your own huge virtual model railway layout. A very well done game, accentuated on building landscapes. Unfortunatly is the game to "heavy" to be able to cope with more than a couple of trains. Also the scheduling of trains is too limited to my taste.
  6. Railroad Tycoon 3

This game was long-awaited sequal of Railroad Tycoon II. But it came out very disappointing. The added 3D interface made the game sluggish and cumbersome. The game play possibilities where simplified, so the game lost its emersiveness and addictiveness. There are types of games that never should go 3D.
  7. Transport Giant

A very promising game with beautifull graphics. The game plays nicely, but the railroad aspect was too limited to my taste.
  8. Railroad Pioneer

I only played the demo version, but the game could not attrack me enough to play the full version.
  9. MS Train simulator

The amount of bugs in the construction set, and the limited variation of game play, made this game to me one of the most boring train games I played.
